Laura Chulià, Deputy Spokesperson of the Popular Parliamentary Group in Les Corts, has urged Pedro Sánchez's Government to immediately approve the exemption of the Property Tax (IBI) and the Economic Activities Tax (IAE) for those affected by the October floods. "It is not fair that families should pay for uninhabitable homes or that businesses should bear taxes for activities they cannot carry out. The Government must ensure true support for those who have lost everything," she stated.
The GPP deputy has thus joined the demands made by the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and emphasized the need to implement an exceptional fiscal plan that also includes the elimination of taxes on the acquisition of vehicles and the rehabilitation of damaged homes. In this regard, she recalled that the aid promised by Sánchez's Government is subject to VAT, which drastically reduces its real utility. She also warned about the ICO loans, which must be repaid with interest, and the lack of clarity on whether direct aid will be counted in the IRPF.
Chulià lamented that, while the socialist Executive continues to create obstacles, the Consell has implemented exemptions in inheritances, donations, property transfers, and the sanitation levy, in addition to zero-cost loans through the Valencian Institute of Finance amounting to 350 million euros in liquidity for freelancers and businesses. "While the central Government offers aid with fine print and loans with interest, the Consell demonstrates its commitment with real measures that do not burden citizens further," the popular spokesperson noted.
Finally, Chulià called for the unity of all parliamentary groups to demand these extraordinary fiscal measures from the central Government. "Citizens need real support, not more obstacles. The Generalitat is doing everything possible to mitigate the effects of the floods, but we need the central Government to rise to the occasion. Valencians cannot wait any longer," she concluded.
