The Social Policy spokesperson of the Popular Parliamentary Group in Les Corts, Elena Bastidas, has demanded from Sánchez's Government the "immediate payment of the debt owed for dependency care in the Valencian Community", which amounts to more than 3 billion euros, according to the Popular Group.
This claim is one of the resolution proposals presented by the Valencian populars within the framework of the General Policy Debate of the Valencian Community, held this week in the regional Parliament.
In the initiative, the GPP urges the Consell to demand from the Government of Spain the immediate payment of pending amounts allocated for dependent care. "The accumulated debt is a result of underfunding by the socialist Executive, which only contributes around 22% of payments," they emphasize from the party. Additionally, the Valencian populars also demand that 50% of economic benefits be paid as established by current legislation.
At present, the Valencian Community has a record number of 161,500 people attended to in the dependency system, compared to 140,000 last year. "Never before have so many people received dependency aid," says Bastidas. "This achievement has been possible thanks to increased funds, reaching 680 million euros in 2024, compared to 567 million from the previous Botànic government," she explained.

Additionally, the popular parliamentarian highlighted other significant improvements in dependency care: a 20% reduction in waiting lists and waiting times – now averaging 279 days – increased telecare services and expanded places in care centers for people with disabilities (325 new places) and mental health (272 additional places). Bastidas also noted that while the previous government resolved only 41,000 cases per year, the PP's Consell has managed 44,000 resolutions in just six months.
"These advances have been achieved thanks to Carlos Mazón's Consell's efforts. With the Government of change, rights and aid for dependency are guaranteed," assures Bastidas. Nevertheless, it is necessary for Sánchez's Executive to settle its debt with the Valencian Community and urgently end underfunding so that the advances achieved by the Consell are not compromised and to ensure dignified care for all dependent people in our territory, conclude the populars.
