The mascletà this Friday, 20th June 2025, will be long remembered in the history of Luceros' mascletàs. The pyrotechnic competition has minimum and maximum time limits, as well as gunpowder load, but no decibel restrictions. It is the artist who decides how to distribute the explosive devices to achieve the desired effects. Ferrández Pyrotechnics aimed for the greatest possible impact.
It succeeded, judging by the consequences. The roar of the mascletà shattered several shop windows around Luceros Square, with cracks caused by the vibrations, as confirmed by TodoAlicante.
The official measurement of the mascletà was 128.6 decibels, according to the Alicante City Council. This noise level is equivalent to a rock concert, a drill, or an airplane taking off at close range. Such a level can cause discomfort, pain, and even temporary hearing loss. An "ear-splitting" mascletà, one might say.
This was not the only incident at Friday's mascletà, as two people had to be treated for heatstroke. It should not be forgotten that Alicante is experiencing the hottest Hogueras in the last 100 years, according to the Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
