The Municipal Police of Madrid are investigating the death of a woman on Tuesday in the capital as a possible case of gender-based violence after she was run over by her partner.

The 33-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital in critical condition after suffering severe injuries caused by the impact of a vehicle. According to witnesses, around 4:30 PM on Monday, the deceased and her partner had a heated argument that began inside their home and continued onto the street.

At one point, both approached their car, and according to testimonies collected by the police, the woman tried to enter through the car window. The driver, her partner, accelerated and even mounted the sidewalk, causing the woman to be thrown and hit the ground forcefully, according to some witnesses.

The victim suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and several fractures in her left upper and lower limbs. After being stabilized and intubated, she was transferred with prior notice to Hospital 12 de Octubre, where she died in the ICU on Tuesday. The driver fled the scene but eventually surrendered to police authorities.

Initially, he is being charged with three offenses: homicide, endangering public safety, and failure to provide assistance. Now, investigation sources are trying to gather the necessary information to add charges of domestic abuse.

However, the young man's police record does not show any previous offenses for this crime or restraining orders. On the other hand, the victim had previously had problems with a former partner related to gender-based violence.

If this case is confirmed, it would raise the number of women murdered due to gender-based violence this year to 34, bringing the total number since records began to 1,278.

This is the second gender-based violence murder investigated this week by the Ministry of Equality. On Tuesday, the department led by Ana Redondo confirmed the case of a 46-year-old woman murdered by her partner on Monday, September 2nd in Castellón.
