The Port Authority of Alicante has welcomed the spokesperson of the socialist municipal group in the City Council, Ana Barceló, following her request to understand firsthand the entity's stance on the controversy surrounding the macro-deposits between piers 17 and 21.
The meeting was held with "maximum cordiality" between both parties, discussing sustainability in maritime infrastructure as a "priority" axis to "continue evolving in the right direction," stated the President of the Port Authority, Luis Rodríguez.
In this regard, the Port of Alicante is "aligned with a model of sustainable economic and environmental development, committed to legality, transparency, and citizenship." At the same time, Rodríguez reaffirmed the incompatibility of the macro-deposits project with this roadmap.
The transformation of the Alicante dock is moving "towards a green port," with various projects underway based on "renewable energies and to improve air and water quality," in addition to the "effort" to make the Port Authority an "open, transparent, and accessible institution, maintaining communication with interested parties and the public."
The Port Authority reminded Ana Barceló that, together with the City Council, the Generalitat, State Ports, and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, it maintains a united front "working on all available legal avenues." However, it emphasized "the importance of maintaining due discretion to avoid compromising its development."
In this regard, the President of the Port Authority, Luis Rodríguez, recalled the existence of "complex legal implications, given that there are ongoing judicial procedures," which they respect.
The President of the Port Authority specified that "communications should be made with the utmost rigor," in addition to "calling for calm and confidence in the institutions."
In this line, the dock points out that "we are working to defend the interests of the citizens and the port with the utmost responsibility." Likewise, Rodríguez conveyed "total empathy" towards the public and other groups concerned about the macro-deposits project.
Rodríguez also commented to the socialist spokesperson that "we would not be in this situation today if the board of directors leading the Port Authority in 2019 had not made that decision." "With the current Port Authority, this project would never have been approved."
