National Police are searching for the suspect in a sexual assault on a 21-year-old woman that occurred last Saturday near the Reception and Emergency Centre in Alcalá de Henares, police sources informed Europa Press.

The incident took place around seven in the evening on Saturday on the dirt road surrounding the 'Primo de Rivera' Paratrooper Brigade barracks, where the reception centre is located by order of the Ministry of Migration.

Surveillance cameras at the centre captured an individual attacking a woman, hitting and sexually assaulting her, as reported by the newspaper 'El Mundo'.

The sexual assailant fled after attacking the young woman. The victim sought help from a man passing by who called the police. An investigation has been launched to gather information about the incident and to find the perpetrator of the sexual assault.

Controversial Centre

The CAED at the Primo de Rivera military barracks was launched in November 2023, housing 264 immigrants from the Canary Islands by order of the Ministry of Migration. Initially, the Ministry set up 1,134 places, but these were increased against the Popular Party's wishes.

Since its inception, the Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, denounced "institutional disloyalty" by the central government and the Government Delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, stating that the centre was supposed to be temporary and that the increase in places had not been planned.

The main controversy occurred in January 2024 when the mayor linked sexual assault allegations to residents of this reception centre, statements also echoed by the Community President, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Following this, the Government Delegate denied that any of the CAED immigrants were being investigated for these incidents.

Subsequently, in response to Martín, the Secretary General of the Madrid PP, Alfonso Serrano, published a police document on the social network X, which included one of the complaints and stated that the alleged assailant was a black person.

A court in Alcalá then opened an investigation into the mayor for a possible offence of breach of document custody in relation to the alleged leak of the aforementioned police report concerning the complaints. The judicial process is still ongoing as it is in full instruction.
