A national police officer has shot a 50-year-old man twice, who was threatening several people with two knives, one in each hand, in the Xenillet neighbourhood in Torrent. The incident occurred around 4:45 PM this Thursday. The injured man was urgently transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Valencia.
Upon being notified of the incident, the injured man's family, including his father and mother, rushed to the scene. According to witnesses, the National Police officer was compelled to fire in self-defence. The man was very agitated and displayed violent behaviour when the officer shouted at him to drop the knives.
According to sources from the Superior Police Headquarters of the Valencian Community, at 4:45 PM, a call was received by 091 alerting that an individual armed with two knives was threatening pedestrians on the street.
Consequently, several patrols from the National Police and Local Police of Torrent urgently arrived at the scene. Officers from the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), a group specialised in riot control, also attended.
One of the officers was forced to use his service weapon to fend off the attack when the individual lunged at the officers intending to assault them with the knives.
Before firing, the officer and his colleagues attempted to persuade the man to cease his violent behaviour, but he ignored the police instructions.
Subsequently, the National Police officers provided assistance to the injured man until a team from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) arrived. The medical staff stabilised the man and transported him in a conscious state by ambulance to the General Hospital of Valencia, where he was admitted.
The officers seized the two knives and took them to police headquarters, where they also conducted the necessary investigations.
