Police Intercept Unauthorized Drone Flying Over Mascletà in Luceros

The National Police's security operation around the mascletàs of Hogueras in Luceros, a hotspot during the festivities due to the large crowds, was activated on Monday due to the presence of a drone flying over the square without authorization.

While members of the Air Unit were on duty on one of the rooftops in Luceros square, monitoring for crime and dangerous drone flights, they detected an unauthorized drone flight that had travelled from Alicante's port, flying over buildings and crowds.

Quickly, a National Police patrol moved to Alicante's port, where the unauthorized drone pilot was reportedly located, still holding the remote control.

Due to the reported actions and flying over restricted areas, posing potential danger, the drone was seized, and the operator was proposed for administrative sanction.

This is not the first instance where the National Police Air Unit in Alicante has had to intervene during these Hogueras. The first incident occurred on the night of Saturday 21st at Plaza Mar Shopping Centre when its owner attempted to capture images of the drone show held in Alicante's port area, flying over a crowd, which is prohibited, moving the aircraft over 1.5 kilometres away.

The National Police informs that the flight of unmanned aircraft must be conducted under strict requirements set by Aesa, and during special dates like Hogueras, there is a temporary airspace restriction in Alicante city, and any such flights must be authorized by the National Police in their jurisdiction.
