Operation by the Drug and Organised Crime Unit (Udyco) has dismantled one of the largest ecstasy hauls seized to date in the country: up to 104,000 pills. The operation, which remains confidential, stems from surveillance of a Slovak national residing in Cartagena, believed to be a 'courier' for a drug trafficking gang.
The operation has so far resulted in the arrest of five alleged gang members, four Algerians and one Slovak, several of whom are residents of the Murcia region, specifically Cartagena and Molina de Segura. The seizure, according to sources close to the case, took place on February 25 in the garage of a building in Torrevieja.
It appears that members of several gangs had gathered at the location to conduct a drug deal and, upon noticing the police presence, attempted to flee, even ramming their vehicles into several officers. In the boot of one of the vehicles, officers found the haul of up to 104,000 ecstasy pills, a seizure that adds to a previous operation already underway by the National Police, which could further increase the volume of this drug seized.
