National Police unions and professional associations of the Civil Guard have criticised the agreement reached by the PSOE with Junts regarding migration and border control. They view it as an 'illegal transfer' of exclusive competencies of the State Security Forces and Corps.
They completely reject the proposed law announced for the 'delegation' of competencies, as stated by Government spokesperson Pilar Alegría after the Council of Ministers, which includes the Generalitat's management of Foreigners' Internment Centres (CIE) and the deportation of foreigners with entry bans.
In a statement, the Unified Police Union (SUP) asserted that they will 'stand up to the Government to prevent the scandalous and illegal transfer of competencies in favour of the Mossos d'Esquadra'. 'Not an inch will be ceded in defending the rights and freedoms of all citizens, regardless of where they live or whom they vote for,' the organisation defended, considering it an 'outrage' to follow the roadmap set by Junts, as it 'violates all security laws'.
'If we need to bring these political leaders to court to safeguard such an essential right as public security, we will do so; we are determined to take this matter to the end,' explained the SUP.
These sentiments were echoed by the Justice Police Union (Jupol), which denounced the 'illegal transfer' of migration competencies to the Generalitat of Catalonia and simultaneously demanded the resignation of Marlaska, who did not appear on Tuesday due to health issues, 'if the competencies of the National Police are undermined'. They also consider it 'unacceptable' that the Government, 'with the minister's complicity', continues 'giving away' fundamental State competencies 'in exchange for political favours'. 'This Executive has decided to betray public servants and yield to the blackmail of the separatists, putting national security and sovereignty at grave risk,' they criticised, while defending that it is a 'direct attack' on the work carried out by the agents and a 'shameful surrender to separatism'.
Meanwhile, from the Civil Guard, AUGC stated that 'security cannot be a bargaining chip in political deals nor can the unity of action of the State Security Forces and Corps be jeopardised in such a sensitive area as immigration'. 'We remind that border control, management of migration flows, and the fight against illegal immigration are essential State functions that cannot be subject to political bargaining,' added AUGC, defending that immigration competencies 'are entrusted to the National Police and the Civil Guard'.
