Benidorm shop was selling textiles and leather goods from renowned brands, but they were actually imitations. The National Police have arrested the 43-year-old owner for an offence against industrial and intellectual property, according to investigation sources.
The investigation began following a complaint from a company dedicated to protecting original brands, representing various nationally and internationally recognized firms. This entity alerted the National Police about the unauthorized imitation of their brands being sold in a Benidorm commercial establishment.
In response, a specific police operation was organized to verify the complaint and, if necessary, prosecute the crime. The inspection of the indicated premises and the seizure of the allegedly fraudulent products were carried out with the assistance of a judicial expert in brands.
Once at the investigated establishment, officers confirmed the reported irregularities: numerous leather and textile products imitating registered brands of renowned prestige were displayed and sold, with clear signs of counterfeiting.
After completing the inspection, investigators counted a total of 1,111 imitation items, all of which were seized. During this operation, the shop owner was arrested and charged with offences against industrial and intellectual property.
Once all police procedures were completed, the entire case was forwarded to the Benidorm Magistrate's Court on duty.
Offence against Industrial and Intellectual Property
The offence against industrial and intellectual property refers to the infringement of rights protecting creations and trademarks related to commercial activity, such as brands, patents, industrial designs, and artistic or literary works.
The sale or distribution of counterfeit products not only causes significant economic losses for legitimate companies but can also pose a risk to the health and safety of consumers, as these products often do not meet required quality and safety standards.
The National Police emphasize the importance of purchasing products through authorized sales channels to ensure their originality and safety. Any citizen who suspects or is aware of the sale of counterfeit products can and should report it to the competent authorities, thus contributing to the fight against this illegal activity.
