Wednesday marked the worst day of the cold spell affecting the province. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued a yellow alert for temperatures below -4 degrees in the province's interior, but the readings have exceeded expectations.
According to data from the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet), minimum temperatures of up to -13 degrees have been recorded, while several towns have woken up to -10 degrees, especially in mountainous areas.
The Hondo de la Lagunilla area in Villena once again experienced severe frosts and very low minimums, reaching -13.4 degrees. Avamet's network indicates that in Onil, in els Canyarets, temperatures dropped to -10.6 degrees, while in Xixona, in the Rambla de la Sarga, thermometers showed -10.1 degrees.
Other areas of Villena experienced frosts and minimums ranging from -9.8 degrees to -8 degrees. Thus, the interior and mountainous areas continue to face sub-zero temperatures, although the worst was early this morning.
Wednesday's temperatures are expected to be the coldest of the spell, serving as a prelude to the rain and snow forecasted to arrive from Thursday and persist until Friday, with snow levels at 800 meters, potentially blanketing the Aitana mountain range in white.
Se va a producir un cambio de tiempo mañana. Los cielos despejados van a dar paso a cielos cubiertos de nubes conforme avance el jueves. La madrugada de mañana seguirá siendo fría, menos que hoy.

The Aemet explains that "a change in weather is expected tomorrow." Clear skies will give way to clouds as Thursday progresses. However, the meteorological agency warns that "tomorrow's early hours will remain cold, though less so than today."
With such cloudiness, frosts will retreat from the coast on Friday and remain confined to the interior of the northern half, where "frosts will generally be weak, locally moderate," Aemet explains.
