The 'polar claw' that has suddenly reached the peninsula is making its presence felt in the province of Alicante starting this Friday. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned that it is "an unusually cold air mass for this time of year," which will be particularly noticeable "in the northern peninsula and the Balearic Islands."

The province is experiencing autumnal weather in this second week of September. The arrival of a polar mass from the Atlantic brings an atypical and sharp drop in temperatures, widely felt in the interior of the Alicante region with drops of up to 10 degrees on thermometers in Alcoi, where highs will drop from 31 ºC on Thursday to 21 ºC this Friday, with lows of 13 degrees.

Meanwhile, the capital of Alicante province will also experience a sharp drop in temperatures, though milder than that in the northern part of the region, with a five-degree decrease compared to the previous day, according to data provided by Aemet.

In the city of Alicante, highs will drop from 31 ºC to 26 ºC, while lows will remain stable at 22ºC. Aemet forecasts a 50% chance of rain during the early hours until midday. As for the wind, it will blow from the east with gusts reaching up to 25 km/h.

For the weekend, highs will remain stable but lows will register a drop of several degrees, reaching 18 ºC on Sunday. Meanwhile, Elche, Orihuela, Dénia, and Elda will register temperatures similar to those in the city of Alicante.
