The 'Plantà' Begins: Alicante Adorns Itself with Flowers for the Hogueras Festival

Alicante kicks off with the 'plantà'. Not the one for the bonfires, which will be starting from Tuesday 17th, but rather the one for floral motifs and arrangements. Various parts of the city have been filled with flowers to herald the official festival celebrations, the Hogueras, which will commence in a week.

Thus, the municipal department of Parks and Gardens and the STV Gestión service 'Brota Alicante' have adorned the Town Hall facade with floral garlands. The arches and pillars of the Town Hall are already decorated with these motifs, awaiting the arrival of the official bonfires.

The same is happening on the Esplanade, in front of Canalejas, and on the Avenue of the Station. Four floral 'belleas del foc', two at each location, rise to announce once again that "Ja estem en Fogueres". They also welcome visitors arriving by road, promenade, and train.

Espolines in authentic bloom

The designs of these floral 'belleas' are inspired by the espolín fabrics worn by the official representatives of the Hogueras. This is the case with the two figures installed on the Esplanade, which display the 'eagle' green colours like those of Valentina Tárraga and aquamarine like those of Adriana Vico, both with a base of Boxwood leaves. The skirts of the 'belleas' on the Avenue of the Station are blue and black. The floral species used are intended to last throughout the festivities and shine for Alicante residents and visitors to take their traditional photographs during the Hogueras.

The Councillor for the Environment, Manuel Villar, stated that "we care for the green spaces of Alicante, all year round, but at this time we want to somehow highlight the work of those dedicated to this task with an ornamentation that could not be more special or more Alicante, represented through the figure of the 'bellea del foc'."
