Nerves, excitement, hope, and an explosion of joy. This was the long-awaited moment for young Elia Lull Ballester and Paula Argudo Bañó when they received the call from the mayor this Friday afternoon, announcing that they were to be the Senior and Junior Fallas Queens of Dénia 2026. Both expressed their gratitude to the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, when he informed them over the phone that they had been chosen as the leading representatives of the Fallas festivities.
They could say little more during the 'cridà', overwhelmed by happiness and the rush to head to the town hall for their official announcement.
Elia was the first to learn her fate, surrounded by family and friends when the phone rang. The young girl has Fallas in her blood, belonging to the Baix la Mar district since before she was born. She is 11 years old, studies in the 5th grade at Paidos school, and aspires to be a preschool teacher because she loves children.
For her, it is an honour to represent the young falleros of the city throughout the Valencian Community. Her favourite events of the Fallas festivities are the 'plantà' and the Offering.
Then it was Paula's turn, who answered the mayor's call through tears of joy at this dream come true. At 26, this young woman from the Les Roques fallas has become the Senior Fallas Queen of Dénia. She studied to be a preschool teacher and now works in a family business in the hospitality sector.
She believes that the Fallas of Dénia are much more than the monuments erected in the city's streets. Behind these committees are "good people, good music, and a great atmosphere." She is eager to begin her reign, believing she can bring respect, camaraderie, joy, and celebration.
After the 'cridà', Elia and Paula headed to the town hall. But they were not alone; the other candidates who will form the court of honour also accompanied them.
In front of them, numerous family members and falleros wanted to share this very special moment with the leading representatives of the Fallas festivities.
