Part of the false ceiling at the Maternal and Child Hospital in Ourense collapsed on Saturday on the building's third floor, causing material damage but no personal injuries.
According to sources from the Health Department consulted by Europa Press, it was a "small collapse" of the false ceiling in a passage area of the Maternal and Child Hospital, apparently caused by the air conditioning duct.
They also detailed that this collapse did not affect the hospitalisation area and emphasised that the area was immediately cleaned.
In this context, a similar incident occurred last year in another area of the Maternal and Child Hospital, also resulting in material damage. It was at the end of 2023 when part of the ceiling in the delivery room on the building's first floor fell.
THE BNG DEMANDS THE HEALTH MINISTER'S APPEARANCE
Meanwhile, nationalist deputy for Ourense, Noa Presas, announced this Sunday that the BNG "will demand" the appearance of the Health Minister, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, in the Galician Parliament to explain this new collapse, which she described as "very serious" and "could have caused irreparable personal injuries."
In this regard, the BNG recalled in a press release that the "deterioration" of the Maternal and Child Hospital building at the Ourense University Hospital Complex "is one of the main problems" in the field of healthcare infrastructure in Ourense.
In fact, they denounced that in recent years there have been various incidents reported to the inspection or even publicly denounced, such as the ceiling collapse in the delivery room at the end of 2023.
