Alicante now boasts a new parking facility in the city centre as of Tuesday, 17th June, providing a much-needed alternative during the Hogueras festivities when traffic becomes congested due to the large number of visitors attending the mascletà or official city parades. The Valencian Government's Infrastructure Department has announced the opening of the parking located at the Adif station in Alicante.

This new parking area offers 204 spaces, eight of which are designated for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM), serving as an alternative due to the partial occupation by ongoing works at the Adif Station parking.

During the Hogueras, this new parking surface complements the existing one, which has 420 available spaces. In total, there are over 600 parking points, with both areas internally connected and maintaining the current vehicle access from Aguilera Avenue, via Alcalde Rafael Millá Santos Street.

The provisional parking has been constructed in the disused track area of the Adif station. In January, the removal of these tracks and their old facilities was completed, and the filling work with granular material for the base of the parking's asphalt and finishes has been completed.

Subterranean channels have also been executed to house cables for the future installations of this provisional parking, as well as for the replacement of the Adif railway catering service shed.

Continuation of the works

Once the festivities are over, a further part of the existing parking will be occupied to continue constructing the pile walls on Salamanca Avenue.

These works will continue throughout 2025, allowing for the excavation of the station's 'box' itself and the tunnel under the avenue, which will extend the already constructed infrastructure starting from Luceros station.

This phase of the construction project began in January at the main access to the Adif station parking from Salamanca Avenue, necessitating the reconfiguration of pedestrian and vehicle access.

The awarded budget for the construction and project management contracts amounts to 102 million euros (including VAT) with an execution period of 52 months, meaning the works would be completed between late 2027 and 2028.
