Construction works for the new Central Tram Station in Alicante are "progressing at a good pace, with great determination and priority," stated the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, on Thursday.
The head of the Consell visited the works for the construction of the provisional parking facility at Adif's premises, the first step to free up the land for the new station. During the construction, the current parking area will be occupied, making it necessary to provide a space to meet this need.
According to Mazón, this new provisional parking will have 250 spaces and will initially coexist with the current one. As the works for the Central Station progress, the spaces of the old parking will be occupied. Additionally, it will also serve the local residents. The Consell expects it to open before the Hogueras festival.
Simultaneously, a new access to the parking has been executed during the works, along with the enclosure of the area. Previously, other works such as appraisals, building surveys, and new route signage have been carried out. During the first fortnight of January, new access to the station's parking will be implemented in coordination with the Alicante City Council and Adif.
The current works are taking place after the dismantling of existing railway tracks and facilities in the disused area ceded by Adif. Additionally, prior studies and inspections, as well as preparatory works, have been conducted to undertake the main construction project.
"For many years, the impassable wall of Luceros stood," recalled Mazón. Now, the works are progressing at a good pace, and from the Generalitat, "we are working to make the future Central Station of Alicante a reality as soon as possible." The president reminded that it is one of the strategic works for mobility and connectivity in the province of Alicante, which will involve more than 100 million euros and over four years to complete.
