Film as a form of therapy. This is the spirit behind the initiative that recently transformed the Paediatric Oncology Unit at Alicante General Hospital into a film set for a good cause.
The initiative, titled 'Hospital de Cine', was part of the Alicante Smartphone Film Festival, featuring inspiring themes such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, and fairy tales. With this aesthetic, young patients were immersed in fantasy worlds while sharing moments of joy and creativity.
This initiative was supported by Javier González de Dios, director of the Paediatrics Department at Doctor Balmis General Hospital and a renowned film enthusiast. González de Dios, author of the book series "Cinema and Paediatrics", highlighted the positive impact of activities like this: "Cinema is a universal language that unites us and allows us to dream. For our patients, these experiences are a respite from their daily struggle and a reminder that they are children above all."
The festival's co-director, Victoria Seva, also emphasised the emotional nature of the activity: "It has been a beautiful experience. This workshop allows them to feel part of their favourite films and then enjoy watching the result of the green screen."
She also highlighted the importance of bringing culture and entertainment beyond usual spaces, reaching those who need it most. From themed decorations to interactive activities, every detail was designed to create a unique and emotionally charged atmosphere.
