Over 35,000 Students in Alicante Left Without Classes Due to Storm

Second day of class suspension in the province of Alicante due to the storm. This Wednesday, 35,385 students have been left without classes, both in schools and high schools. The number is lower than that recorded this past Tuesday, when the suspension affected over 40,000 students.

This Wednesday, 29 municipalities in Alicante were affected by the class suspension, impacting a total of 94 centres. Of these, 66 are primary schools (CEIPs) with a total of 19,566 students; and 28 are high schools (IES), accommodating 15,819 students.

Throughout the Valencian Community, 522,881 students were left without classes this Wednesday, spread across 2,235 centres in 281 localities.

The rain episode continues to affect the province of Alicante. After a Tuesday of intense rainfall with an orange alert in the north of the territory, this Wednesday is expected to continue raining generally across the Alicante regions.

The north of Alicante has been the hardest hit so far. It continues to rain there, and in the last four hours, places like La Vall de la Gallinera have exceeded 16.2 litres per square metre, while L'Orxa has also surpassed 12l/m2, according to data from the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet).

In the last 24 hours, several areas have approached 100 litres per square metre. In the Vall de la Gallinera, the accumulated amount is 98.6 litres per square metre, while in l'Orxa it approaches 90 l/m2, similar to the Vall d'Ebo.
