Osamu Suzuki, Senior Advisor of Japanese Automaker, Passes Away

Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced the passing of Osamu Suzuki, the company's senior advisor, at the age of 94 due to a malignant lymphoma.

In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, funeral services were held only for close family, and any condolence visits, monetary offerings, floral tributes, or condolence telegrams have been declined. The company plans to hold a farewell meeting at a later date, with the time and place yet to be determined.

Under his leadership, Suzuki Motor Corporation became a major global automobile manufacturer. He drove technological innovation within the company, introducing technologies such as four-wheel drive and fuel-efficient engines. He also received numerous accolades for his contributions to the automotive industry, including the Deming Prize for Quality Control.

Born on January 30, 1930, in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture, Mr. Osamu Suzuki graduated from the Faculty of Law at Chuo University in March 1953. He joined Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. in April 1958 and was appointed director of the company in November 1963, subsequently taking on roles as general manager (1967), senior general manager (1973), and president (1978).

In October 1990, the company's name changed to Suzuki Motor Corporation, and in June 2000, Mr. Osamu Suzuki was appointed director and chairman of the board; he added the role of company president in December 2008. In June 2015, he became director and chairman of the board, and in June 2021, he was named senior advisor to the company.

Mr. Osamu Suzuki received numerous awards throughout his distinguished career: Sitara-e-Pakistan (March 1985); Medal of Honour with Blue Ribbon (Japan, November 1987); Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary (May 1993), Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star (Japan, May 2000); induction into the Japan Automotive Hall of Fame (November 2002); Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Merit of Hungary (May 2004); Padma Bhushan (India, March 2007) and Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary (March 2020).
