Olympic Athlete Rebecca Cheptegei Dies After Being Doused with Gasoline by Boyfriend

Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, who participated in the marathon at the Paris Olympic Games, has passed away after allegedly being attacked by her boyfriend. According to the head of the country's Olympic committee, the Ugandan was admitted to the emergency room after being doused with gasoline and subsequently set on fire.

Following this announcement, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya, confirmed the news. "Unfortunately, we lost her after all her organs failed last night," stated one of the doctors working at this medical center. This message came after a post by Donald Rukare, President of the Uganda Olympic Committee, on social media. "We have learned of the sad passing of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei... following a brutal attack by her boyfriend," he wrote.

The incident occurred last Sunday in Kenya's Trans Nzoia County, from where the 33-year-old athlete was transported to the hospital. Upon her arrival for treatment, doctors confirmed that she had severe burns covering 80% of her body.
