Josep Oliu, President of Banco Sabadell, engaged in a phone conversation with Carlos Baño, President of the Alicante Chamber of Commerce, following the announcement of the bank's headquarters relocation from the province. Oliu assured Baño that the bank's Technological Competence Centre will continue its operations in Alicante.
In response to Baño's concerns about the implications for Alicante following the bank's decision to move its social headquarters to Catalonia, Baño publicly urged Sabadell to maintain its offices and staff, emphasising the importance of keeping the technological centre in Aguamarga as it attracts talent and supports local businesses. Oliu confirmed to Baño that the centre will remain in Aguamarga.
During their discussion, Oliu also committed to participating in a meeting with Alicante business leaders "soon" to discuss new measures and provide reassurance amidst the new circumstances, as stated by the Chamber of Commerce.

This call follows the Alicante Chamber President's description of Sabadell's decision to return its social headquarters to Catalonia as "more political than economic." Baño admits the announcement is a "cold shower for Alicante," as it was "unexpected and unpredictable."
The Chamber President explained that Sabadell's decision is an attempt to "avoid a takeover bid," and for this, they had to comply. Baño reflects: "After analysing the situation quickly, it is clear that this is more of a political decision than an economic one, possibly linked to the agreement between PSOE and Junts in Switzerland regarding the State Budget, as part of the Catalan government's effort to regain economic strength and have the bank listed in Catalonia again." Baño expressed that "the best outcome would be for BBVA's takeover bid for Sabadell not to proceed, for the benefit of small businesses in Alicante."
Baño highlighted Sabadell's history in the province, "maintaining staff and a significant number of offices from the outset, as well as good relations with institutions and the business community." He recalled the Chamber of Commerce's support for the bank during the takeover bid process: "We even approached the National Commission on Markets and Competition to defend them because we advocate for diversity and for small businesses and SMEs to have more options, as globalisation and unification of financial entities reduce competitiveness."
