The official bonfire of Alicante, 'Identity', will be more special than ever this coming June. The artist Pedro Espadero will dedicate it to Pedro Luis Sirvent, a master pyrotechnician from Alicante and a close friend of the craftsman, who passed away last month during an explosion in his Fontcalent workshop.

Pedro Espadero will dedicate the entire official bonfire to the 'senyor pirotècnic'. In doing so, he aims to pay homage to the pyrotechnician, responsible for the cremà of "almost all" his official bonfires in the Town Hall square. pyrotechnician,

To this end, the Alicante artist will place a mention of Pedro Luis Sirvent at the base of 'Identity', in order to acknowledge the pyrotechnician's many years of work and honour his memory following the tragic accident on March 6th.

A bonfire for the people of Alicante

This gesture will also align with the theme of the 2025 official bonfire, which carries the motto 'Identity'. The artist explained, upon learning of the jury's decision, that the bonfire aims to represent the people of Alicante. It will do so through the name given by the people of Alicante to the lottery ticket endings.

In the central body, top, counter-tops, and lower scenes, "all one hundred numbers" of the lottery ticket endings will be represented. ONCE lottery tickets. These will take the form of ninots, paintings, and reliefs, using various techniques. "People will like it," the artist acknowledged.

Characters of Alicante

In addition to the numbers and names of the tickets, characters from the city of Alicante. Among them, a ninot of Mayor Luis Barcala, with which "I'll give it some punch," joked Espadero, intending to include critique in the official bonfire.

This intention, conceived months ago, will also allow the inclusion of Pedro Luis Sirvent in the official bonfire of Alicante, which will be entirely dedicated to the Alicante pyrotechnician, founder of the former Pirotecnia Alicantina, inherited by his children and renamed Hermanos Sirvent.

'Identity' will stand 20 metres tall and 12 metres wide, and it will predominantly feature wood. "The entire centre will be made of this material" to reduce the use of white cork and polluting materials. "It can be reduced, and that's what I'm going to do," he emphasised, also to enjoy a clean cremà like last June 24th.

Accessibility and inclusion in the official bonfire

Pedro Espadero also takes a step further in his career as a bonfire artist and official. It will be in 2025 when the bonfire in the Town Hall square will feature plaques in braille so that blind people can know its content.

It is a nod included in the theme of 'Identity', as 'the blind' - the common name for ONCE lottery tickets - have a name given by the people of Alicante. This will also be incorporated into the official children's bonfire, 'H2O' by Sergio Gómez, dedicated to water.

In this case, the plaques will also be an example of sustainability, as they are created from waste extracted from the seabed. Teams of environmental volunteers "will recover waste thrown into the beach and sea to create something visually beautiful," also raising awareness among the youngest about the importance of water.
