UMH, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, is preparing to expand its educational offerings with a new campus in Torrevieja. Among the new courses is the Degree in Tourism Business Management, which will be offered both in-person and online, in a dual and bilingual format (Spanish and English), and will start with 50 students in its first year. The programme is set to commence in the 2026/2027 academic year, as announced by UMH Rector Juan José Ruiz during his visit to the city on Wednesday.

"This degree aims to address the need to train professionals in various areas of the tourism sector, equipping individuals to perform technical and operational roles related to the profession, as well as roles in coordination, management, and leadership of tourism businesses and activities," stated Juan José Ruiz.

The rector's presence coincided with the construction of the building that will host the university campus in the city, which is currently 60% complete. This new building, located on the central Concepción Street, will also house the facilities of the company AGAMED.

The entire building is expected to be completed by the end of this year, and its opening is planned for the first quarter of 2026, once it is fully equipped. It will have the capacity to accommodate 430 students and 50 AGAMED employees, in two completely separate spaces.

The building's construction is expected to finish this year, and it will begin hosting activities in the first quarter of 2026, once equipped.

The Torrevieja City Council assures that the building is "avant-garde, functional, and adaptable to emerging educational needs, as well as sustainable, using natural resources as a main axis." It will also be "highly efficient, generating its own electricity for self-consumption through photovoltaic panels, regulating consumption based on the time of day, and controlling water usage with saving devices."

Two Chairs

Additionally, the UMH Rector announced that Torrevieja will also have two chairs for the 2026/2027 academic year: a Habanera Chair and a Gastronomy Chair.

Finally, Eduardo Dolón highlighted that the integration of the three universities at the Torrevieja University Headquarters (University of Alicante, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, and UNED) demonstrates that collaboration is possible and that all can open up to offer the best services and opportunities to the students of our city.
