Officers from the Aragón Superior Police Headquarters have arrested a nurse in Zaragoza who sexually assaulted a particularly vulnerable patient. The incidents occurred in 2017 in Cali, Colombia, where this Colombian citizen was sentenced to 12 years and one month in prison, a sentence he evaded by fleeing the country. Consequently, an International Arrest Warrant from Interpol for extradition purposes was issued by Colombian judicial authorities to enforce the imposed sentence.
The incidents for which he was convicted took place in 2017 at a healthcare facility in the city of Cali, where the detainee worked as a nurse. Exploiting his professional position and the victim's physical state, the now-detained individual subjected her to sexual touching and violence on two occasions.
Following his arrest on Thursday, April 10, immediate communication was made with the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Spain, which forwarded the case to the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court.
By order of this body, the detainee was brought before the Court of Instruction number 5 in Zaragoza, which will conduct a videoconference with Madrid to proceed with the judicial processes related to the extradition.
The National Police highlights that this intervention demonstrates the effectiveness of international cooperation mechanisms in crime prosecution and reaffirms its commitment to protecting victims and combating sexual offenses.
