Nuria Fergó broke her silence on the programme 'Madres: desde el corazón', speaking candidly about her first marriage to José Manuel Maíz, the father of her daughter. In an emotionally charged interview with Cruz Sánchez de Lara, the singer recounted how she left the marital home just ten days after giving birth, and how motherhood drove her to decide on separation.
"I didn't want my daughter to grow up in a loveless home," declared the singer from Nerja, who claimed to have raised her daughter alone for years and felt "stifled" during that period. Through tears, Fergó also revealed her legal battle for custody when she attempted to move from Málaga to Madrid to resume her career, and her ex-husband sought full custody of the child. "Things happen, which I won't detail, and he backtracks. When he backtracks, we go to court anyway, and when we're there, it appears in the press that Nuria Fergó is going to the courts in Palma de Mallorca because her ex has reported her for taking their daughter to Madrid without his consent. When that was false," she recalled.
A narrative that quickly found a response. José Manuel Maíz spoke out after more than a decade, stating he did not understand "why this is coming up 14 years later." In statements to 'TardeAR', the businessman denied knowing of his ex-wife's discontent and claimed that his daughter has always seen him "very happy." "I believe my daughter has already been hurt by what has been done to her, the situation is not pleasant. What she has seen is not pleasant for her. I have a great relationship with my daughter. It's all strange because 14 years have passed. That something Nuria says happened, what is it?" he questioned, while also revealing that he still does not know the reasons why his marriage to the woman from Málaga ended, "Throughout all this time we haven't had a conversation about what happened. I lacked content to understand it," he concluded.
