During a three-week stay, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway quietly strolled among the bustling tourists of Tenerife, enjoying the climate and scenery like any other visitors. Their strictly private getaway went completely unnoticed until they contacted the Ethnographic Park Pirámides de Güímar, expressing their wish to visit the museum. There, accompanied by the museum's director, Alicia Barroso, and Jacqueline Beer, widow of the renowned Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl, the monarchs experienced an emotional tribute.
Heyerdahl, a friend of the couple, was instrumental in preserving the Tenerife pyramids and dedicated his life to researching and protecting this unique site. During the visit, the Royals laid a wreath of flowers beside the bust of the researcher, visibly moved. Before leaving, they signed the guest book and received several commemorative gifts, including a miniature reproduction of the Ra II reed boat.
