The Civil Guard has arrested a 46-year-old man in La Vila for allegedly stealing public lighting wiring in the town. The stolen items and the damages caused are estimated to be worth up to 4,000 euros.
According to a statement from the Benemérita, the investigation began when the Roca Team of the Calpe Company noticed a slight increase in the theft of public lighting wiring in La Vila in February 2024.
In the initial phase of the investigation, agents intensified inspections at metal recycling establishments and increased surveillance in areas susceptible to this type of theft. Additionally, investigators analyzed security camera footage near the locations where the thefts occurred.

The Civil Guard discovered that one of the affected points still had wiring left to steal, so they set up a night surveillance operation in these affected areas to try to identify the thief, who would "probably return to complete the theft".
During one of these surveillances, they discovered a neighbor of La Vila in the area, who quickly left after noticing the presence of the Civil Guard. As investigations progressed, the suspect was linked to several crimes: one damage offense, two burglaries, and three thefts, all related to public lighting wiring theft.
On August 30th, the Civil Guard proceeded to arrest the individual, a 46-year-old man, after locating him. The total value of the damages caused and stolen material is estimated at over 4,000 euros. The facts have been reported to the Villajoyosa Instruction Court on duty, which will handle the case.
