Benidorm

During the past weekend, the streets of the towns in the Marina Baixa region, with Benidorm at the forefront, have already experienced a significant increase in the number of visitors. This is expected to multiply exponentially in the coming days with the arrival of the central days of Easter.
This first holiday period of the year likely poses the greatest challenge for road traffic in this area of the Costa Blanca. Unlike during peak times like summer, the vast majority of visitors are of national origin and travel to their destination by car, with all that this entails.
To alleviate this issue as much as possible, the town council of La Vila Joiosa announced today the opening of the new parking area at Bol Nou and Paradís beaches, adding 173 new spaces, including five for vehicles of people with reduced mobility, ten for motorcycles, and three for families.
The mayor of La Vila Joiosa, Marcos Zaragoza, explained that "one of our priorities is to improve the town's accessibility and mobility. Therefore, we will continue to create more parking areas, as it is necessary to facilitate parking, especially during peak seasons like summer and Easter. The planned execution period of five months has been accelerated and reduced to two months."
This new parking area improves the accessibility and sustainability of this residential and tourist area, as it not only solves the parking problem but also enhances the urban scene's image.
Additionally, it provides a safe and accessible space for both residents and visitors to park their vehicles. Other advantages include reducing the time spent searching for parking, significantly contributing to minimising emissions from unnecessary travel, greater control over tourism activity in the area, and preserving the natural environment. According to Zaragoza, "it reinforces the commitment to a responsible and sustainable tourism model that combines respect for the environment with improving the quality of life for visitors and residents."
Furthermore, the mayor announced the initiation of the project to adapt and improve the southern section of the Colada de la Costa, which runs parallel to this parking area. The works, budgeted at nearly 150,000 euros, will include the creation of a bike lane, road renewal, and adaptation of the cattle track.
Not far from there, in Benidorm, the socialist opposition has denounced that the Poniente public parking building, located on Puerto Rico Avenue, remains "completely closed during Easter, despite all the press headlines and announcements made over the years by Toni Pérez's government."
Socialist spokesperson Cristina Escoda criticised that the PP government team has been "unable to tender and award the contract to apply the same management model as in the l'Aigüera public parking."
Escoda recalled the statements made by the Mobility Councillor last June 2024, where he said that "the contracting process was ongoing and that as soon as it was resolved, the new management model would be applied to this parking."
"Almost a year has passed since those words, and everything remains the same, with no news of the specifications or the contract. This ghost building closed its doors in September, after being open for just over two months, and remains closed," she indicated.
