Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, signed a decree on Tuesday to redistribute responsibilities within his government team following the resignation of Finance Councillor Toni Gallego. This new allocation of areas will take effect next Friday, the 20th, with Nayma Beldjilali assuming the delegations of Economy, Finance, and Heritage. Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Manuel Villar will temporarily manage Sports until the new government team composition is finalised with the inclusion of the new councillor replacing Gallego.
This mayoral decree also involves a reassignment of responsibilities. The new configuration of executive councillors and delegations in the municipal executive is as follows:
- Nayma Beldjilali: Culture, Economy, Finance, and Heritage.
- Begoña León: Social Welfare, Seniors, and Family.
- Cristina García: Infrastructure and Maintenance, Citizen Participation, and Rural Areas.
- Julio Calero: Public Safety, Public Rights (Immigration, Volunteering, and Cooperation), and Human Resources.
- Manuel Villar: Legal Advice, Cleaning and Waste Management, Environmental Sustainability (Environment and Parks and Gardens), Contracting, and Sports.
- Carlos de Juan: Urban Mobility (Traffic and Transport), Housing, and Youth.
In other words, Carlos de Juan takes over the Youth responsibilities previously held by Beldjilali, with the priority of completing the works at Centre 14. This project also falls under the Housing Board, of which De Juan is president.
In his place, he leaves the Rural Areas, which are assigned to Cristina García. Meanwhile, Begoña León also takes on the responsibilities for Seniors, previously held by the now Finance and Culture Councillor.
The rest of the councillors not included in this reshuffle will continue with the responsibilities, services, or areas assigned to them in June 2023 at the start of the current municipal term.
The decree signed by the mayor will take effect from next Friday, the 20th, and will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province and on the electronic notice board of the municipal headquarters. Additionally, this redistribution of areas will be reported to the Council in the session on the 26th.
