The Port of Santa Pola is preparing for a very "special" visit. The patrol vessel 'Formentor', based at the Arsenal of Cartagena, will make a stopover at this point in the province. With this, the ship will open its doors to the general public during the afternoon of this Thursday.

During its stopover, the vessel will offer an open day from 17:15 to 19:15 at pier G of Marina Miramar, to showcase its mission and onboard resources. Additionally, at dusk, a solemn flag-lowering ceremony will be held, which can be witnessed by citizens from the dock.

The visit of the 'Formentor' to the Port of Santa Pola is part of one of the maritime surveillance missions that the ship regularly carries out along the Mediterranean coast.

The "special bond" between the ship and the province of Alicante dates back to its delivery to the Navy, as it was in this province where the ship was originally based. This event is 'especially significant' as this year marks the 35th anniversary of the ship's delivery to the Navy, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense.

Among its duties are maritime traffic surveillance and control, environmental protection, fishing surveillance and protection of underwater archaeological heritage, as well as collaborations with other state agencies with maritime competencies. During its operations, it is common for it to enter various national ports along the Mediterranean coast and bring the Navy closer to the civilian population.

The patrol vessel 'Formentor', belonging to the 'Toralla' class, was built at Viudes Shipyards (Barcelona) and delivered to the Navy in 1989. This unit is integrated into the Command of Maritime Action Force Units in Cartagena (MARCART), under the direct command of the Admiral of Maritime Action (ALMART).
