Fundació Baleària is inaugurating the exhibition "Mediterranean Sustainable Art" this Friday in Dénia. The exhibition gathers the creations of sixteen artists from Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the Valencian Community, who use natural and recycled materials to create artworks that express a clear commitment to the environment.
The selection of works includes sculptures, textile pieces, paintings, and installations, all crafted from recovered plastics and fabrics, fishing nets and ropes, microplastics, and other waste materials that, transformed by artistic vision, acquire new symbolic and aesthetic value.
The exhibition aims to give voice to artists committed to a more sustainable way of living, establishing a profound dialogue with their surroundings and inviting the public to reflect on our impact on the planet. Promoted by Fundació Baleària, "Mediterranean Sustainable Art" is an initiative carried out in collaboration with the Drap-Art Festival — the International Festival of Sustainable Art of Catalonia — and the Art amb B Association.
Travelling Exhibition
The exhibition begins its tour in Dénia and will be open from June 6 to 29 at the Sala Turia of Els Magazinos. It will then travel to Menorca, where it will be displayed during September and October at the Sala Sant Josep in Ciutadella. In December, it will conclude its journey in Barcelona, where it will be part of the Catalonia Sustainable Art Festival's programme.
To continue the special programming for World Environment Day, on June 6, Fundació Baleària will also inaugurate the exhibition "Posidonia" by artist Juan Carlos Nadal at the maritime station in Dénia (Baleària Port).
Additionally, the shipping company's foundation will collaborate in the release of turtles scheduled for this Sunday, June 8, at Punta del Raset beach in Dénia, as well as in the sighting of cetaceans and the search for loggerhead turtles nesting on the beaches during the summer, organised by the Dénia City Council and the Eucrante Association.
