National police officers in Elche are working without air conditioning in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in June, according to a complaint by the Unified Police Union (SUP) through their Occupational Risk Prevention Delegate.
The organisation claims it has been requesting a "definitive solution" to the ventilation system issue from the Headquarters since March, before the summer heat arrived. So far, "it neither works nor has a solution date," they lament.
The union advocates for suitable working conditions and the health care of both the police officers and the numerous citizens who visit the station daily. They believe that Occupational Risk Prevention is "a fundamental part of people's well-being, with workplace temperature being an element that can indirectly increase the risk of work accidents."

The SUP also warns that national police officers and citizens are enduring temperatures above 30 degrees, reaching nearly 32 degrees in the afternoon. They also state that at times it's hotter inside the station than outside.
Problems in More Stations
Elche is not the only station facing this issue. The union maintains that every summer there are problems with cooling systems in police stations across the province of Alicante, such as in Dénia ("a completely outdated building in terms of space and location") or Orihuela, where the system "operates at 50% or 100%, depending on the day."
The union continues to stress the need to "invest" in repairing air conditioning systems that repeatedly fail "every summer." "We understand that if there is a budget for all kinds of events, there should be a budget for occupational risk prevention and the health care of the National Police and citizens," they conclude.
