National Police have arrested a 17-year-old minor in Alicante for alleged involvement in a racist incident during the football match on October 26, between Hércules C.F. and Atlético de Madrid B at the José Rico Pérez stadium.

The police intervention began upon detecting possible offensive behavior by the minor towards a player of the visiting team. According to investigations, the young man allegedly made gestures from the stands that could be interpreted as offensive concerning the racial origin of the Atlético de Madrid B player, the police report.

This incident was compounded by the conduct of two other individuals who may also be involved in reprehensible behavior within the stadium, particularly one for invading the pitch and another for throwing a small object that hit one of the players.

The minor, identified with the help of Hércules C.F., was arrested by the National Police and released under investigation, remaining in the custody of a relative. The other two involved were also identified with the help of the blanquiazul club, being proposed for sanction under the Sports Law to the governmental authority.

The police actions taken with the 17-year-old have been referred to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of the Provincial Court of Alicante and the Provincial Prosecutor's Office specialized in hate crimes.

Prevent and report hate conduct

The National Police remind that offensive or discriminatory conduct based on race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other reason that undermines the dignity of people is classified in the Penal Code and can constitute hate crimes. These crimes not only affect the direct victim but also impact societal well-being, creating a climate of hostility and division.

The Corps urges citizens to reject and report any act of hate or discrimination and to promote respect and coexistence in all areas. Any incident of this nature can be reported through the official channels of the National Police, where it will be treated with confidentiality and a high degree of professionalism.
