Mutxamel strengthens its street cleaning and waste collection services with the new contract signed this week. The new terms include increased frequency of container washing, extraordinary cleaning of storm drains, and a provision of 1,500 annual hours at the discretion of the Town Hall for events, festivals, special cleanings, or extraordinary cleaning campaigns.
The company STV Gestión S.L. has been awarded the service, which will come into effect on April 8, 2025, and will be valid until 2035. The contract price is €26,680,666.90, nearly €800,000 more per year to expand and improve services.
Improvements also include replacing all 650 containers in the municipality. Additionally, the contract includes the installation of a Fixed Proximity Clean Point in Plaça Nova, where batteries, small appliances, coffee capsules, bulbs, bottle caps, books, and magazines can be deposited.
Five Mini Eco-points will also be distributed across various urbanizations, allowing residents to deposit some of the aforementioned waste without needing to travel to the town center. Additionally, 30 new battery containers and seven composting islands will be installed next to pruning collection points (Urbanización La Huerta -C/Ametler- and Urbanización Río Park -C/Celestina and C/Algeps) for residents to dispose of organic waste and aid in creating compost for municipal trees.
The Councillor for Services and Maintenance, Gustavo Blasco García, highlighted "the importance of this new contract aimed at improving services for citizens, as well as the continuous implementation of tools and services that ensure recycling and selective waste separation." Regarding the increased budget, he explained that "we were very interested in reinforcing certain aspects, especially in terms of cleaning hours, which is why the new contract includes a provision of hours for discretionary use, facilitating occasional or emergency tasks that arise and are difficult to manage with the current staff."
Regarding the new contract's innovations, Blasco emphasized "the inclusion of a sidewalk sweeper, completely new machinery that did not exist before." Additionally, "there will be a cleaning crew on Sundays and holidays to ensure service is provided every day of the week."
The town's mayor, Rafael García Berenguer, expressed satisfaction with this new award, which "aims to improve municipal services for the benefit of citizens. We continue to work on a priority aspect such as street cleaning and waste collection, ensuring our residents have all the resources necessary for proper waste collection and maximizing selection."
The installation of the Fixed Proximity Clean Point and Mini Eco-points are, according to the mayor, "tools that allow people without vehicles or the elderly to deposit some of the most common waste without needing to visit the Eco Park, continuing to raise awareness of the importance of recycling." He insisted that "attention will continue to be paid, as it has been so far, to street cleaning, parks, and as the new contract includes container cleaning; special attention will also continue to be given to washing, especially in urbanizations, where efforts are being made to expand and reinforce services."
Meanwhile, the general director of STV Gestión, Juan Alcántara, assured that, "as with all contracts we implement at STV, we do so with the aim of improving the places where we work and, consequently, the well-being of the people who receive these services, in this case, the residents of Mutxamel." In this regard, the company head stated that "our goal is excellence" and added that "we care about the quality of our services while implementing increasingly sustainable and environmentally friendly techniques and machinery."
