Mutxamel joins the celebration of the International Day of the Educating City and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, two commemorations that highlight the importance of building an inclusive society where education and respect for the rights of all individuals are fundamental pillars.

Every November 30, the municipality celebrates the International Day of the Educating City, an occasion to reflect on the role of cities in the comprehensive education of citizens. Educating cities promote social cohesion, civic participation, and respect for human rights, ensuring an environment where each person can fully develop. This year, the theme "The Educating City as a laboratory of learning, citizenship, and social transformation" invites us to think about how cities can become spaces of continuous, innovative, and sustainable learning.

From Mutxamel, they have reaffirmed their commitment "to make our community a space where education is not limited to classrooms but transcends all areas of urban life. We will implement various activities, workshops, and forums that seek to involve residents in building a collaborative educational environment."

Through a statement, they have informed that the council follows "this educational premise and, therefore, we have wanted to bring forward the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in our municipality and celebrate these two special dates. With this festivity, we aim to give visibility to diversity and raise awareness, to remind the need to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all areas of life and society."

The Departments of Education and Social Welfare have joined forces to evoke this commitment and, together with various entities and associations, will present on the morning of Saturday, November 30, a program of different activities, workshops, and exhibitions in the Plaza de Poble Nou, such as the creation of solidarity postcards or macramé keychains, where participating associations and entities will develop their activities to highlight and recognize key issues within the framework of the International Day of the Educating City and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

To achieve these objectives, collaboration will be sought from: Fundación ONCE, Hércules Paralímpico, Fundación Adiem, Fundación ONCE - Inserta Empleo, Grupo Social ONCE, COCENFE, the Adapted Sports Club VEDASPORT, the Triathlon Club Tri.NET, Mutxamel Local Police, San Rafael - Fundación Estima, ADACEA Alicante, Va de Cuentos, and the associations Charcot-Marie-Tooth, ANDA, APSA, the Alicante Association of Asperger's Syndrome and Autism, and the Baha'i Women's Association.

The event will open with a welcome hot chocolate at 10 am, and 15 minutes later, simultaneous workshops will begin where anyone who wishes can participate. At 10:45, the Mutxatxers theatre group will start with a show open to public participation, and at 11:15, two simultaneous activities will take place with sign language interpretation: the storytelling space and the guided tour of the Peñacerrada Gardens. When these activities conclude, there will be a demonstration by the Local Police with a drone exercise and the presence of the canine guide. At 12:50, the manifesto will be read, creating a space for reflection and celebration of the event, and to close, a live Jazz concert will be held for those present in the Poble Nou square.

From the City Council, they have called on citizens "to join these celebrations and contribute to building a fairer, more educational, and inclusive city for all. Together, we can work towards a future where every individual has the opportunity to access quality education and where their rights are fully respected."

The Councillor for Education, María Loreto Riera Alberola, highlights that "from the education department, we are very pleased to celebrate the Day of Educating Cities with such a comprehensive recreational-festive day as the one we have prepared in the Plaza del Poble Nou. That this celebration joins the World Disability Day seems to us a great opportunity to educate our children, young people, and families in respect, inclusion, and working to understand diversity as an opportunity and not as a barrier."

The Councillor for Social Welfare, Estefanía Moreno Cortés, wanted to emphasize that "once again, Mutxamel joins the celebration and commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year, it is also celebrated alongside the Day of Educating Cities, as an educating city is above all an inclusive city. On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we remember that education in diversity and non-discrimination is the fundamental pillar of coexistence. Through inclusive policies and accessible public spaces, we build day by day in a city that educates its inhabitants in mutual respect and appreciation for functional diversity. Moreover, as a society and as a government, we are obliged to fulfill a fundamental commitment to equality, which is why today I call on everyone to work hand in hand with persons with disabilities. With the event to be held on November 30, we aim to invite all citizens to experience a city that educates, includes, and strives to be a space where everyone can contribute and participate fully. Therefore, we await everyone, families, the elderly, boys and girls, as we will have inclusive workshops, cultural activities, and spaces for dialogue and learning. We want this day to reflect the spirit of our city, an inclusive, supportive community committed to the development of each person."
