Benidorm will celebrate 700 years since the granting of the Carta Pobla on the upcoming 8th of May. Meanwhile, Villena will commemorate the 500th anniversary of the City Title throughout most of 2025, which is celebrated on the 25th of February. Therefore, the Socialist Group of the Alicante Provincial Council has requested that a specific budget be included in the Costa Blanca Tourism Board's funding to celebrate these anniversaries.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Alicante Provincial Council, Vicente Arques, argued that "the commemorative events of both anniversaries in these municipalities require specific funding to enhance the visibility and tourist appeal of both towns." The socialists have submitted a request to include a nominative grant of 25,000 euros for each municipality for this celebration.

"From the Socialist Group, we believe that there are no first and second-class municipalities and that all deserve the same opportunities to promote their local heritage," they emphasized.

Additionally, Arques has invited the president of the Provincial Council, who is also the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, to show "his total willingness, acceptance, and sensitivity towards these municipalities." "We cannot allow the Provincial Council's funds to be allocated to programs and municipalities that only interest certain parties," the socialist highlighted.
