Multiple pedestrians were struck near Cornellà stadium just minutes before the La Liga derby between Espanyol and Barcelona, causing panic in the city of Barcelona. A car ploughed into a crowd outside Espanyol's stadium, resulting in at least a dozen injuries, though none are reported to be serious, according to initial reports.
It appears that the driver of the car, a white Peugeot, became nervous while driving near the RCDE Stadium in Cornellà and accelerated into a group of fans. The driver was apprehended by the Mossos d'Esquadra, and the vehicle involved in the mass incident was towed away with broken windows and various dents on its bodywork.
Images shared on the social media platform X show the car, seemingly positioned between containers, accelerating towards fans gathered outside the stadium, where the Catalan derby commenced shortly after. Some supporters left their seats in Cornellà after the match had started upon hearing the news.
