The Association of Vehicle Converters (ASTRAVE) questions the difficulty for citizens to face the investment required to change vehicles in order to obtain a vehicle whose environmental badge and emission level comply with LEZ restrictions.
However, the conversion to gas of a high percentage of current vehicles, both diesel and gasoline, allows for a reduction in pollutant emissions that facilitates obtaining the ECO label for converted vehicles that meet the conditions for it (EURO 4 gasoline and EURO 6 diesel).
This conversion does not represent an unaffordable economic cost for citizens but is a much smaller investment that enables access to Low Emission Zones. In fact, it is an investment 15 or 20 times lower than buying a new vehicle and is amortized during the life cycle of the vehicles themselves.
Furthermore, ASTRAVE advocates for the need to preserve Low Emission Zones in order to improve air quality in large cities like Madrid. However, it urges the Madrid City Council to incorporate LPG conversions into its strategic plan to reduce pollutant emissions without causing economic harm to citizens.
The conversion of vehicles to LPG is a mature, well-established, accessible, and economical technology that any citizen or small business can access, ensuring no one is left behind on the necessary path towards mobility transition.
