The exhibition 'Milan. Showcase of Modernity. A Journey through Italian Art of the First Half of the 20th Century' now has its own catalogue. The Deputy of Culture, Juan de Dios Navarro, presented the publication this Friday at the Museum of Fine Arts Gravina in Alicante.
From 6:30 PM, the catalogue will be presented to the public by the curators of the exhibition - available at the Mubag - who will share unique insights about the project and other details of their proposal.
The catalogue, published in Spanish and Italian, reflects the various sections of the exhibition, with a text by Guicciardo Sassoli de' Bianchi Strozzi and published by Franco Cosimo Panini Editore. The publication is illustrated with images of the exhibited works, including masterpieces of great artistic and historical value.
The Deputy of Culture highlighted the quality of this exhibition and its accompanying catalogue, which focuses on the transformative role of the Lombard metropolis in 20th-century art, as well as "the close collaboration with prestigious institutions, private lenders, and prominent museums in Italy that have allowed us to enjoy this extraordinary historical material in Alicante."
He was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Italy in Alicante, Danilo Angelini, the director of the Mubag, Jorge A. Soler, and the director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Barcelona, Annamaria Di Giorgio; as well as Danka Giacon, curator of 'Milan' alongside Nicoletta Colombo and Serena Redaelli.
Through a carefully curated journey, the catalogue invites the reader to explore the transformations that turned the Lombard metropolis into an international reference in both the artistic field and industrial production.
With a special focus on the painting developed in Milan, the extraordinary artistic corpus is enriched with historical material, such as documents, posters, dresses, and textile designs, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the spirit of Italy of the era, from the turn of the century to the brink of World War II.
Organised by the Mubag with the support of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Alicante Provincial Council, the Embassy of Italy in Madrid, the Consulate General of Italy in Barcelona, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Barcelona, the exhibition brings together a remarkable selection of works by artists such as Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà, Giorgio de Chirico, Filippo De Pisis, Mario Sironi, and Renato Guttuso, among others.
