Movie-like chase experienced in the streets of Benidorm. A car evaded a police checkpoint and fled at high speed. After activating a closure device at the main exits of the city, a chase ensued, ending when the rental car was wrecked after colliding with a traffic sign. Inside the car, officers found over 7,200 ecstasy pills.
The incident occurred in the early hours when a patrol signalled this vehicle to stop, with two 35-year-old men inside. According to police sources, they ignored the order and fled at high speed. Officers alerted other units to set up a closure device to prevent the escape and ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers.
During the chase, the rental car collided with a traffic sign, rendering it unusable. At that moment, the occupants attempted to flee on foot but were intercepted and arrested by officers shortly after.
After the arrest, the National Police searched the car, finding a bag containing nearly one and a half kilos with 7,240 ecstasy pills. They also seized 680 euros, several mobile phones, including a satellite phone, which could be linked to attempts to evade geolocation, and a defence spray, possibly carried as a self-protection measure.
Both were arrested for their alleged involvement in a drug trafficking offence. One of the detainees had a criminal record for other incidents. Both were brought before the Benidorm Guard Court of Instruction.
