A mountaineer from Gijón has died after falling, and another has been rescued unharmed in the Corredor del Marqués, near the summit of Peña Santa de Enol, in Cangas de Onís. The man who was unharmed was evacuated by the Asturias Firefighters Rescue Group, aboard the medicalized helicopter of the Emergency Service of the Principality of Asturias (SEPA), to the heliport of the Cangas de Onís fire station. The deceased mountaineer was transferred to this same heliport by the GREIM of the Civil Guard, responsible for carrying out the removal of the body, in their aircraft.

The Emergency Coordination Center of 112 Asturias received the notice at 12:44 p.m. The call indicated that his companion had fallen and he was stuck in a crevice.

The SEPA 112 room mobilized the Rescue Group with the medicalized helicopter and informed the Civil Guard of what happened. At 2:03 p.m., the fire brigade confirmed that the fallen mountaineer was deceased, and the weather in the area prevented the rescue of the one who remained stuck with the helicopter crane, so an attempt would be made to access by land.

The GREIM of the Civil Guard reported at 2:11 p.m. that three of its members would move to the area with their helicopter to proceed with the removal of the body and collaborate, if necessary, in the rescue of the unharmed mountaineer.

At 3:19 p.m., the Asturias Firefighters Rescue Group indicated that they were already with the stuck climber. They would descend with him to the base of the peak, where they arrived at 4:17 p.m. From there, they evacuated him to the firefighters' heliport in Cangas de Onís.

The incident, as protocol dictates, was also communicated to SAMU (Urgent Medical Attention Service) and to the 112 services of Cantabria and Castilla y León.
