There are 3.4 million motorcycles in our country, generating a revenue of €800 million for workshops, according to the report "The Aftermarket of Two Wheels in Spain" by Solera, a technology company specializing in the vehicle lifecycle. Of this total, €535 million is attributed to mechanical work, compared to €265 million for bodywork and paint.

Just as with cars, the age of motorcycles is crucial, as 4 out of 10 repairs are carried out on vehicles less than five years old, even though they only make up 23.5% of the total fleet. Therefore, while not the most common, they are the most profitable, accounting for nearly half of the overall aftermarket revenue.

Meanwhile, the second group of motorcycles generating the most revenue are models between 6 and 10 years old (24% of the fleet), accounting for 21% of the revenue. In contrast, the oldest models, over 15 years old, which represent 36% of the fleet, account for 19% of the total revenue.

More years do not necessarily mean more workshop visits, as age is a key factor in mileage. Younger models travel more, leading to more wear and tear. In fact, models less than five years old travel the most, averaging over 5,300 km per year, which is 2.5 times more than motorcycles over 15 years old, which average 1,950 km.

In terms of manufacturers generating the most workshop revenue, Japanese and Italian brands lead the ranking, with Japanese brands Honda and Yamaha in first and second place, and Italian brand Piaggio in third. This 'top 10' of brands is completed by Japanese brands Kawasaki and Suzuki, and Italian brands Aprilia and Ducati, with the exceptions being Taiwanese Kymco, German BMW, and French Peugeot.

However, in terms of average repair cost, the most expensive manufacturer is Italian Ducati, with an average bill of €2,789, followed by BMW at €2,571 and Kawasaki at €2,350. On the other hand, the brands with the cheapest workshop bills are Peugeot, averaging €731, and Kymco at €804.
