The Civil Guard has arrested a 78-year-old woman and her 44-year-old son, both of French nationality, in Calpe for fraud crimes in France. Both had European arrest warrants for extradition purposes for offenses against property.

These arrests were made possible by the periodic checks that the Civil Guard conducts in establishments and online platforms dedicated to lodging, which allowed the fugitives to be located in a holiday villa in a rural area of Calp. These individuals led a discreet life and went unnoticed in the neighborhood.

According to the Civil Guard in a statement, the agents managed to confirm the identity and verify the validity of the arrest warrants. These people had been moving around Spain as tourists since 2019.

The son was wanted by the French authorities due to a fraud in which, through bad checks, he acquired electronic equipment to later sell it and obtain liquidity, amassing a total of 46,000 euros.

On the other hand, the mother had a search, arrest, and imprisonment order issued by the Central Court of Instruction No. 4 of Madrid since 2019, for alleged fraud. According to this, the fugitive had deceived a French bank to obtain funds, bonds, or goods worth 30,600 euros. To do this, she allegedly used fraudulent maneuvers, such as depositing checks in bank accounts opened for this purpose and their subsequent transfer to accounts in Spain. These events occurred in November 2016 in the town of Agen, in the French department of Lot-et-Garonne.

Once the arrest warrants were confirmed, on October 30, the agents proceeded to arrest mother and son. Both detainees have been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authorities, who have ordered provisional imprisonment for both while the extradition procedures are resolved.
