The province of Alicante, besides being known for its beaches, Mediterranean climate, and rich cultural offerings, also boasts a rural environment ideal for those wishing to discover the most authentic and natural side of the region. Rural tourism is an excellent option for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy nature and tranquillity.
The Alicante region ranks in the top 20 most searched for rural tourism in Spain, amassing a total of 182,000 Google searches in 2024, according to a study by Sensación Rural and o10media, based on the analysis of search engine queries about rural accommodations. These figures reflect the great variety of rural destinations in Alicante, where both the mountains and charming small towns play a key role in attracting visitors.
According to the analysis, Biar leads the searches for rural tourism in the province. This municipality in the Alto Vinalopó has been the most sought-after destination by travellers interested in this type of getaway, with a total of 4,500 searches. Its historical heritage and natural surroundings make it a top destination.
Following Biar are Xixona -2,900 searches- and Banyeres de Mariola -2,300 searches-, two towns noted for their proximity to natural spaces and cultural tradition. In fourth place is Vall de Gallinera, -2,200-, and in fifth place Tibi -with 1,500-.

The analysis of monthly trends shows that the highest volume of searches was recorded in January, with 19,080 queries. This data confirms the anticipation in planning rural getaways, especially for the spring and summer months.
Besides January, the months with the most activity were July (17,350 searches) and August (16,790 searches), confirming the appeal of rural tourism in Alicante during the summer season. On the opposite side, December recorded the lowest number of queries, with 12,400, reflecting lower demand in the winter season.
The study also reveals that the majority of searches come from the province of Alicante itself, with 45.2% of the total, highlighting the strong local interest in rural tourism. Valencia ranks second with 13.2%, followed by Madrid (8.2%), Murcia (5.8%), and Barcelona (5.1%). These figures confirm the importance of proximity tourism in the community and the interest generated by Alicante's rural destinations in nearby communities and large urban centres.
