The Government Board of the Alicante City Council has approved the admission for processing of two private initiative feasibility studies for the potential concession of works for the design and construction of new infrastructures, renovation of existing ones, operation and maintenance at the Alicante Waste Treatment Centre (CETRA); one submitted by Prezero España S.A. and Prezero Gestión de Residuos S.A. and the second by FCC Medio Ambiente SAU and Cívica Servicios y Medio Ambiente S.L. Both studies will be subject to public information for a period of one month before deciding on their acceptance.
The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Street Cleaning and Waste Management, Manuel Villar, explained that "these feasibility studies, from the current management companies of CETRA, will serve as a basis for preparing the management project and tendering the new contract." The current one expires on August 31, although the service will be extended for approximately nine months as the tender process for the new concession has begun.

The Alicante City Council is undertaking investments in improvements and modernization of CETRA worth over 17 million euros to enhance waste selection and handle organic waste treatment following the deployment of the brown container throughout the city.
With the acceptance of both private feasibility studies, the City Council ensures the interest of these sector companies to bid for the modernization and management of CETRA, assuming their participation in the tender for the new contract, in addition to having an initial business assessment to successfully carry out the new CETRA management project that municipal technical services will develop.
The Alicante City Council had previously submitted a CETRA management project to the Ministry of Ecological Transition with investments of up to 71 million euros, although the document did not progress after 11 months from its registration without a response from the regional administration, until it was required to undergo a review to adapt it to the new provisions introduced in the Waste and Contaminated Soils Law.
Manuel Villar explained that the aim of his department is for the entire contracting process to be developed within the remainder of the year, with the goal of having the new concessionaire known and operational by 2026.
