La secretaria general del PSPV, Diana Morant, vowed on Sunday to wrest control of the Generalitat from Carlos Mazón's PP in the upcoming elections, describing it as 'the greatest nightmare in our history'. She labelled Mazón as 'negligent and irresponsible' for his management during and after the catastrophe. 'We will win again here and across Spain in 2027,' she declared.
Morant concluded the XV Congress of the PSPV, held this weekend in Valencia, where she was reaffirmed as the leader of the Valencian socialists. Her speech encouraged party officials and representatives to 'once again defeat' the right in the Valencian Community.
Morant considers it 'our duty' to triumph over the Popular Party after three governments (in reality, four: Eduardo Zaplana, Francisco Camps, Alberto Fabra, and Carlos Mazón) have governed the Generalitat, none of which she deems 'worthy of this Community'. She particularly criticised the current administration.
Morant emphasised that the head of the Consell 'was not where he should have been on the most tragic day', condemning his behaviour as 'miserable and unworthy' for a 'PP president who, as always, responded with lies'. 'He should resign for what he did or did not do,' she asserted.
Morant pledged to reclaim the Generalitat, as Ximo Puig did in 2015 after 'twenty years of corruption and mismanagement'. She recalled, 'We had to defeat the PP of Camps, Zaplana, and Fabra, those who economically and reputationally ruined the Valencian Community.'
'History repeats itself because the PP has in its DNA the prioritisation of their interests and those of their close allies over the general interest and the people's interest. Therefore, if they need to steal to gain power, they steal. If they need to lie to remain in power, they lie. If they need to sign an agreement with someone convicted of gender violence to govern, they sign it. They lack dignity and do not deserve to govern the Valencian Community,' she stated.
The PSPV leader asserted that the Botànic governments were 'agreements of hope for all progressives', with which Valencian socialists 'cleansed the Valencian Community of another type of mud, but mud nonetheless'. She urged to 'win again as we did then': 'If we could defeat that PP, we can certainly defeat this one.'
