Emergencies and the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) are monitoring the reservoirs in the Valencian Community due to the increased water flow resulting from heavy rainfall in recent hours. One of these is the Isbert reservoir in La Vall de Laguar, which overflowed this Monday.

The Emergency Coordination Centre reported early Monday morning that it had received a notification from the CHJ regarding the Isbert reservoir, as the water flow was 7.23 cubic metres, exceeding 5 with an "upward trend." The accumulated volume was so significant that the small dam overflowed before the Barranc de l'Infern, causing water to cascade like a waterfall into the Girona River.

This scene repeats itself whenever there are episodes of heavy rain in this area of the Marina Alta interior. The town councils of La Vall de Laguar and others along the Girona, such as El Verger and Els Poblets, have highlighted that although the sight is striking, the river is currently flowing normally and everything is "calm."

Meanwhile, Generalitat Emergencies is assessing the situation by consulting with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) about the weather conditions due to the risk of flooding affecting towns below the dam. In light of this situation, they recommend "heightened vigilance and security," as well as paying attention to any warnings issued throughout the week.

The Valencian Agency for Security and Emergency Response advises towns on alert and agencies responsible for emergency management to "maintain necessary attention and monitoring of all warnings" issued by the Generalitat's Emergency Coordination Centre during these days, in order to "activate their action protocols in advance and establish appropriate preventive measures within their respective areas."

Classes Suspended

The storm has forced more than 30 municipalities in Alicante to suspend classes for Tuesday following the orange alert issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Meanwhile, Generalitat Emergencies has activated situation 0 for flooding. This level is set when meteorological and hydrographic data predict imminent flooding with danger to people or property due to heavy or torrential rains.

The UA and UMH have also cancelled the school day. Additionally, they advise against travelling to campuses due to potential rainfall. The universities have suspended academic activities in Altea and Alcoi, and absences will be excused due to the weather emergency.
