The tribute at the Bernabéu for two legends extended beyond the match. After the final whistle, as if it were one of the many celebrations for winning the Champions League they have experienced in the past, Ancelotti and Modric moved from the centre circle to a congregation devoted to their heroes.
The Italian was concise, faithful to his always calm style until the very end. "It has been an honour, it has been a pleasure. First, I want to thank my dear president, Florentino. It has been fantastic to coach this group of players, of fantastic quality, and to share all these moments with you," began Carletto, while Florentino Pérez was moved in a way never before seen in the leader.
"This is an unforgettable story. No one can forget Karim's three goals against PSG, Rodrygo's two goals against City, Modric's pass against Chelsea, and Joselu's two goals against Bayern. I also cannot forget every day I have spent here. Hala Madrid and nothing more, I love you very much. Ciao," concluded the Reggiolo coach, before handing over to the '10', the extension of the coach on the pitch.
"The moment I never wanted to come has arrived. It has been a long but wonderful journey. First, I want to thank the club, the president, Florentino Pérez. Also, all the coaches over the years, the teammates who have accompanied me on this path, and all the people who helped me. Thank you very much, from the heart," acknowledged the Croatian.
He then remembered his family. "Without them, none of this would be possible," he noted. "We have won a lot, we have had wonderful moments. Many trophies, but the greatest thing I have won is the affection and love you have given me all these years," he explained.
"Do not cry because it is over, smile because it happened. Hala Madrid and nothing more," concluded the '10', tossed by his teammates before Ancelotti was also lifted by the dressing room he has masterfully managed over the past four seasons. Then came the lap of honour and the final crowd celebration for Modric, first with his wife and children, then accompanied by Carletto. Thus ended an afternoon the Bernabéu will hardly forget.
